Church security checklist

This is a church security checklist that starts with arithmetic instead of adjectives. A safety team that feels big enough is a feeling; 150 people at the biggest service against five members on duty is a number, 30 attendees per watcher, and it either sits inside the coverage judgement your team has made or it does not. The sheet takes six figures a safety lead already knows, doors, watchers, services, minutes and attendance, and returns the three that decide the roster conversation: attendees per team member on duty, doors nobody is watching, and the team hours a four-week month actually asks of volunteers. Doors before anything else

Six doors people can enter through and two being watched is four unwatched, and no amount of training changes that arithmetic; either doors lock, watchers move, or the plan accepts the gap in writing. The sheet counts the gap so the plan can say which of the three it chose.

The roster cost, in hours

Two services a week at 90 minutes with five on duty is 60 volunteer hours in a four-week month. Volunteers do not burn out from one Sunday; they burn out from a monthly number nobody ever added up. The sheet prints it so the ask is honest before anyone is recruited.

What the checklist does not do

It does not tell you the right ratio of watchers to attendees, whether your team should be armed, or what your insurer requires; those are judgement and adviser questions, and the plan template on this site records the judgements your leadership makes. The sheet gives the numbers those judgements have to face.
